"The Bourne Legacy" will have its Asian premiere in the Philippines on Aug. 5 as announced by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino in a recent interview with dzMM.
According to Tolentino, the Philippines will be the first country in Asia to screen the action film.
"This will be the first premiere, the Asian premiere of 'The Bourne Legacy,'" he told radio dzMM adding that, "We will be screening the movie ahead of the US release."
Tolentino said the film will have its screening at Resorts World Manila on Aug. 5.
"The Bourne Legacy," which stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton, is the fourth installment of the highly-successful 'Bourne' franchise.
It is based on Robert Ludlum's popular Jason Bourne novels.
Hollywood star Matt Damon portrayed the lead role in the first three installments. He reportedly bowed out of production due to a falling out with the film's director Tony Gilroy, who wrote the first three films.
"The Bourne Legacy" is described as a re-tooling of the franchise inasmuch as it deviates completely from the source material.
In "Bourne Legacy," Aaron Cross (Renner) is enlisted under Operation Outcome, a program that is an improvement over Operation Treadstone.
Apparently, Treadstone agents were prone to physical and psychiatric ailments such as depression, anger, compulsive behaviors, headaches, sensitivity to light and, in Jason Bourne's case, amnesia. It is as such that Stephanie Snyder (Weisz), a doctor who has helped create the Outcome agents, has been tasked to design a better program to overcome these obstacles.
But with Bourne exposing the project to the public, the CIA, led by agent Byer (Norton), decides to execute all of the Outcome agents worldwide, including Cross.
Parts of "The Bourne Legacy" were shot in key places in Metro Manila including Malate, Intramuros, Navotas and Nagtahan near Malacanang Palace. Several scenes were also shot in and around Palawan.
A trailer of the movie released earlier showed some of these scenes including a motorbike chase shot in a busy Manila road. The trailer also showed agent Cross in hand-to-hand combat with Filipino police and security guards in what looked like an impoverished residential area.
During the film shoot, Weisz made news when she made public her desire to rehabilitate a local playground. She went on to donate funds that led to the renovation of a playground at the San Andres Sports Complex, which also served as "The Bourne Legacy” production team’s base camp while filming in the area.
Several local politicians lauded Weisz' move.
Not a few who met the actress during the shoot attest to her kind nature, with some Malate vendors relating how the actress would always have a ready smile for them.
Weisz was visited by her husband, British actor Daniel Craig of James Bond fame, and son Henry during filming.
Film producer Pat Crowley admitted to have enjoyed working in the country, citing the efficiency of the local crew. He also lauded the hospitality Pinoys afforded him and his cast. He stayed on after the filming to visit popular tourist spots such as Bohol and Sorsogon.
Renner, on the other hand, was seen hobnobbing with locals in Boracay.
